THE LOWDOWN

ANA KONJUH

24-year-ol Ana Konjuh grabbed one of the best wins since her most recent comeback from injury with a three-set fight-back over in-form Shelby Rogers in the first round. The world number 58 set a career-high WTA world ranking of 20th back in 2017 as a prodigal teenager but injuries have set her back many years since. Konjuh reached the quarter-final of the US Open way back in 2016 and time is on her side to regain that level.

DANIELLE COLLINS

27th seed Danielle Collins conceded just four games to fellow-American Caroline Dolehide on Tuesday as she returns to the scene of the best campaign of her career. The 28-year-old reached the semi-finals here in a blistering run back in 2019 but it took two more years for her to win a first WTA title at the Palermo Open – and then just a fortnight for the next with a first WTA 500 title at the Silicon Valley Classic.

THE PREDICTION

Danielle Collins blasted past Ana Konjuh on her way to the Silicon Valley Open title last year, conceding just two games to the Croat in the semi-finals last summer. The American has that experience and memories of her semi-final run here in Melbourne to take her through again here but Konjuh is in much better shape this time around and it could take tiebreaks and a decider. Opt for Collins to win through outright here.
