THE PREDICTION

World number 18 Beatriz Haddad-Maia is yet to drop a set in Slovenia and the Brazilian has an excellent record at this level this summer. The 26-year-old won her first two WTA titles back-to-back at WTA 250 level in Nottingham and Birmingham back in June but she more recently bested those achievements with a run to the Canada Masters final, where she finished runner-up to Simona Halep. 29-year-old Ana Bogdan looks set to break her career-high WTA world ranking of 59th after reaching the quarter-finals in Portoroz. The Romanian has beaten two excellent players in three sets this week in Ajla Tomljanovic and Tamara Zidansek and she will be a dangerous foe here of Haddad-Maia underestimates her form. The pair have yet to meet at tour level but Haddad-Maia beat Bogdan in three sets at a Challenger semi-final back in May and she should be confident of coming through the outright winner here.
