THE PREDICTION

World number six Andrey Rublev is the defending champion at the Monte-Carlo Open after claiming his first Masters title here last spring, coming back from a set down to upset Holger Rune. The 26-year-old beings a concerning two-match losing streak into the draw after an early exit to Tomas Machac at the Miami Open and he has not looked comfortable on court since his controversial disqualification from the semi-finals of the Dubai Tennis Championships in February.

World number 46 Alexei Popyrin came back from a set down to edge past Corentin Moutet on Monday, an impressive result on clay, and he proved himself a threat in these conditions by winning his second ATP title at the Umag Open last summer. Rublev beat the Aussie in straight sets at the Vienna Open late last season but this could be a real upset if he cannot recalibrate his game, mentally and physically, in time to defend the biggest title of his career. Consider at least a tiebreak here, as happened in their previous clash, with both players solid behind their serves to leave the result up to chance.

TIP: OVER 0.5 TIEBREAKS
