ALEX MICHELSEN VS KEI NISHIKORI PREDICTION
This match very much represents the new emerging talent against the old guard as exciting 19-year-old Alex Michelsen faces veteran Kei Nishikori in the first round. The pair have actually met once before and that came at a Challenger event back in 2023 in Chicago which Michelsen won in three sets so he will not be phased by facing Nishikori.
Michelsen is rising up the rankings all the time and he loves the hard courts. He has little pedigree in the ATP 1000 events but that is a matter of time. This event represents a golden opportunity for him to show what he can do.
Nishikori has plummeted down the rankings due to various injuries he has suffered over the last couple of years. His loss to Michelsen came on his return after 18 months out and he has continued to pick up various niggling injuries in 2024. He has only played five matches in 2024 and lost in the first round at Wimbledon and in the Olympics, while he had to retire at the French Open after picking up his only win of the year.
It is hard to make a case for Nishikori despite his outstanding career. Injuries are taking their toll on him and a match against a talented young player like Michelsen is probably the last type of opponent he needs right now. Expect Michelsen to progress.
