World number 94 Jack Draper put in an impressive, assured performance to win his first Wimbledon match at 20 years old one year on from his four-set defeat to Novak Djokovic in the first round. The Brit received a wildcard for a second year running after another run to the quarter-finals at Queen’s and a first tour semi-final at the Eastbourne International last week when he lost narrowly to Maxime Cressy. World number 27 Alex de Minaur also came through his opener in straight sets against a spirited but ultimately outclassed Hugo Dellien. The Aussie is one of the more comfortable players on tour on this surface as perhaps the fastest man on court and he also lost in the semi-finals last week to eventual Eastbourne champion Taylor Fritz. Two contrasting styles should make for a thriller on Thursday and with the crowd on his side Draper can be backed to win at least a set here, perhaps two, to leave a winner up to chance.
