THE PREDICTION

World number 23 Alex de Minaur extended his remarkable head-to-head record over Denis Shapovalov to 4-0 on Friday with a straight-sets victory that should make the rest of the semi-finalists stand up to attention. The 23-year-old claimed the sixth ATP title of his career at the Atlanta Open this summer to maintain some excellent pedigree at ATP 250 level. 19-year-old Holger Rune claimed his maiden ATP title at the Munich Open on his favoured clay earlier this year but he has made some drastic improvements to his hardcourt game in recent months. A first victory over Cam Norrie after three defeats this season is a bug moment for the Dane, who will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of 25th next week if Miomir Kecmanovic does not win the Napoli Cup. A first meeting with De Minaur makes for a likely thrilling contest but the Aussie should be favoured to edge it on his experience, as well as being one of the tougher players to tackle first time around. Back De Minaur to win at least a set here as the likelier of two capable victors.
