THE PREDICTION
World number 20 Denis Shapovalov claimed his only ATP title to date here at the Stockholm Open three years ago but he did return to the final last season before defeat to Tommy Paul. The 23-year-old beat Antoine Bellier in straight sets on Wednesday for a solid start to this year’s campaign but world number 23 Alex de Minaur is a seriously tough draw so early on. De Minaur, also 23, is yet to drop a set this week after back-to-back wins over Benjamin Bonzi and in-form J.J. Wolf in conditions that suit his lighting-paced playstyle. The Aussie only recently upset Shapovalov at the Canada Masters back in August to take a 3-0 lead in their head-to-head record but the Canadian has improved since then and there must be a certain amount of confidence here in Stockholm where he has previously fared so well. Back De Minaur to win at least a set and leave the victor up to chance.
