THE PREDICTION
World number 10 Casper Ruud failed to defend his Estoril title last week, losing in three thrilling sets to an inspired Pedro Martinez, but he should be considered a serious threat to the Monte-Carlo title this week. The 25-year-old has finished runner-up at three Grand Slams, twice at Roland-Garros, and once at the Miami Masters but he has yet to win anything more prestigious than an ATP 250.
World number 45 Alejandro Tabilo claimed his maiden title in Auckland at the start of the year and he backed-that up with a strong run to the Chile Open final, on clay, in February. The 26-year-old beat Christopher O’Connell in straight sets on Monday for a solid start at Monte-Carlo but it should take top 10 opposition to oust Ruud, who has been impressive so far this season, from a genuine chance at a maiden Masters crown. Take Ruud to win outright, although straight sets should probably do.
TIP: CASPER RUUD TO WIN
