THE PREDICTION
World number 98 Marton Fucsovics needed a spot of luck after a poor summer saw him ride a four-match losing streak into the US Open to face an in-form home player in Maxime Cressy. The Hungarian got it when Cressy was forced to retire from their third set, with a set apiece, and that could see him a totally new player in this second round clash with Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. World number 39 Davidovich Fokina overcame in-form Yoshihito Nishioka in impressive straight sets to see both players sneak through tricky openers but the Spaniard lost to Fucsovics in straight sets in their only previous encounter at the Rotterdam Open last season. 23-year-old ADF enjoyed some strong form on grass this season to add to his clear and present clay-court prowess but he has yet to fully convince on a hardcourt. The shrewd move could be taking Fucsovics to win at least a set here, or both players to win at least a set if you can, to leave this tight one up to chance.
