THE PREDICTION

This match looks a suitable candidate for five sets between two fiercely competitive young players in world number six Holger Rune and number 34 Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. 20-year-old Rune is yet to drop a set in his first run to the third round at Wimbledon but wins over wildcard George Loffhagen and Roberto Carballes Baena were to be expected. The Dane has reached back-to-back quarter-finals at Roland-Garros on his favoured clay but he burst into form on hardcourts late last season to look the real deal as a top 10 player, stunning Novak Djokovic from a set down to win the Paris Masters. 24-year-old Davidovich Fokina overcame Botic van de Zandschulp in four sets on Friday to avoid a potential marathon and he is one of the better clay lovers on grass. The Spaniard stunned Rune in three tight sets at the Madrid Masters in April, getting a lot of joy from the fast clay, to suggest this could come very close indeed.

Avoiding the result is sensible here so consider either a one-off on five sets or for Davidovich Fokina to earn at least a set with at least one tiebreak in the match. Two of their three sets in Madrid went to tiebreaks.
