THE PREDICTION
World number 10 Hubert Hurkacz overcame Emil Ruusuvuori in three sets on Wednesday to get his Canada Masters campaign underway. The 25-year-old has endured an odd season on tour of peaks and troughs but he recently won the fifth ATP title of his career at the Halle Open and he has the experience of winning a Masters title from last season’s Miami Open. World number 43 Albert Ramos-Vinolas should, tentatively, be a winnable fixture for the Pole but back-to-back straight-set victories over David Goffin and Diego Schwartzman are some serious results to take into this intriguing clash. The 34-year-old reached back-to-back semi-finals on tour last month on his favoured clay but he poses a considerable threat in this form to Hurkacz, who has been brittle at times this season. Back the eighth seed to edge through outright here, although in normal service he should be taking this in two.
