THE PREDICTION

World number seven Anett Kontaveit looks to have taken her form from late last season into 2022 and that should spark fear in the hearts of the rest of the WTA. The 26-year-old won four of her last eight tournaments played in 2021 and she reached the final of the WTA Finals on her debut before losing to Garbine Muguruza. Kontaveit took the first set against Ons Jabeur before the Tunisian retired from their match on Thursday and that looks like bullish form ahead of this quick rematch with world number four Barbora Krejcikova, who lost to the Estonian twice at the WTA Finals last November. The Roland-Garros champion is yet to drop a set this week with two straightforward wins but this is a significant step-up in intensity that the Czech is likely not quite ready for yet. Take Kontaveit to win at least a set here cautiously or to win outright for a riskier pick.
