THE PREDICTION

Former world number 20 Ana Konjuh can go as far as her body allows her in 2022 as she continues a long road back from some terrible luck with injuries. The 24-year-old won her first title as an 18-year-old back in 2015 but her career was summed up perfectly last season when she was forced to retire from the Belgrade Open final. Konjuh has so far impressed in wins over seventh seed Tereza Martincova and Kaia Kanepi but world number 126 Qinwen Zheng’s momentum will take some stopping after four wins in close succession from the Melbourne Summer Set qualifiers through to her first tour quarter-finals. The 19-year-old is another Chinese star in the making and it would not be a surprise to see an upset here in the ever-unpredictable WTA tour. In fact this match is well worth leaving out of an accumulator but two three-set wins for Qinwen Zheng so far suggests taking Konjuh to win at least a set is the most sensible pick.
