THE PREDICTION
20-year-old Jannik Sinner broke the top 10 of the ATP world rankings back in November for a career-high ninth after winning the fourth title of a superb season at the European Open. The Italian can push on even further this season with a first Masters title the target in 2022 after winning his first ATP 500 event at the Washington Open in August. World number 49 James Duckworth enjoyed by far his best season on tour with three quarter-finals reached over the last six tournaments, including a first last eight at a Masters event in Paris, and a first tour final at the Astana Open.
Sinner faced James Duckworth twice last season and found himself stunned by the hardworking Aussie in straight sets at the Canadian Open before he returned the favour on his way to a second-successive Sofia Open title. Duckworth’s 2022 season has the potential for more industry but Sinner is a special player improving all the time and by far the strongest second option at the ATP Cup at world number 10. Take the Italian to win this in straight sets, although an outright win in an accumulator is wise.
