World number 52 Laslo Djere dropped the first set to tricky Frenchman Corentin Moutet in the round of 16 but he took the second before his opponent was forced to retire from the match. 26-year-old Djere can often be found in the last eight of smaller clay-court tournaments across the tour but a rare stint here on a hard court is likely to be curtailed fairly comfortably by world number 30 Marin Cilic. The 33-year-old beat Thiago Monteiro in straight sets in his first match of the season and after an excellent 2021 campaign saw him reach 20 career titles it will be interesting to see if the former world number three can build better confidence on the bigger stages. The last few players to beat Cilic have been a level above Djere on clay and he can be backed tentatively to win this in straight sets.
