THE PREDICTION

World number 14 Elena Rybakina got off to a shaky start in Adelaide but a straight-sets win over Marie Bouzkova in the round of 16 was a step back towards her excellent 2021 form. The 22-year-old Kazakh has been a steady riser for several years now and she looks likely to break the top 10 sooner rather than later in a seriously strong WTA right now. Rybakina leads Shelby Rogers 2-1 in their head-to-head record after beating the charismatic American twice on grass last season the world number 40 is playing some of the best tennis of her career at 29 years old. Rogers beat the third seed Maria Sakkari on Wednesday in three tight sets but she has often struggled to maintain that level in back-to-back matches, with last season’s US Open campaign a huge example. That makes backing Rybakina to win at least a set here as the more consistent performer the wise move.
