Lauren Davis comfortably won her first round match over Wimbledon wildcard Jodie Burrage, breaking her opponent five times in comprehensive straight sets. The American will face an altogether tougher challenge next up as the 23rd seed Madison Keys continues to improve on her impressive recent form. 26-year-old Keys also came through a match with a British hopeful with relative ease as she beat qualifier Katie Swan in straight sets and the former world number five is starting to turn heads this season.
Keys leads Davis 3-2 in their head-to-head record, including a match on grass at the Eastbourne International in 2014, but the pair have not met since 2015.
