THE PREDICTION

18-year-old Emma Raducanu became the last Brit standing at Wimbledon 2021 after beating in-form Sorana Cirstea in straight sets on Court 1. The teenager played her best game yet in front of an adoring crowd witnessing one for the future of British tennis as she reached the second week of Wimbledon without yet dropping a set. Raducanu will face another surprising member of the last 16 in 28-year-old Ajla Tomjlanovic, who overcame a dark horse for the title in Jelena Ostapenko on Saturday in a bad-tempered match. Tomjlanovic fought back from a set down to beat the Latvian to back-up a very impressive second round win over Alize Cornet and the Aussie must be underestimated no longer.

Tomjlanovic has matched her best performance at a Grand Slam by reaching the round of 16 but despite excellent campaign against seasoned players, and a Grand Slam winner in Ostapenko, taking on Raducanu in front of 7000 fans in Court 1 will be her toughest test yet. The world number 75 will look to Sorana Cirstea’s slow start and aim to take the first set forcefully and that could be key against the teenager who has barely been trailing in any of her matches. However, Raducanu is responding favourably to the fever around her and she looks well capable of taking at least a set here as her level increases exponentially in this dream campaign.
