THE PREDICTION

World number 23 Karolina Muchova became the latest player to stun Bianca Andreescu with a convincing straight-sets win over the seventh seed on Wednesday. The 24-year-old came back from a set down to beat Jo Konta in the first round and it does not get any easier now as she faces recent Tokyo 2020 Gold medallist Belinda Bencic in the round of 16. Bencic, also 24, not only claimed Gold in the Women’s Singles in Tokyo but also the Silver alongside Viktorija Golubic in what was almost certainly the best week of the Swiss’ career so far. With ranking points not applicable at the Olympics, she remains the world number 11 for now but two strong straight-set wins over Shelby Rogers and Marketa Vondrousova here in Cincinnati looks like she is coming back to her best form once again.

This first meeting between two players who are no stranger to a marathon match looks like it will need a third set decider to separate them. Right now it is hard to look past Bencic given her form this summer but Muchova is always capable of the upset and thrives as an underdog. Take this match to see three sets and leave the winner up to chance, although Bencic should be the one scraping through here.
