THE PREDICTION
World number 41 Marin Cilic is through to the second final of his season after winning his first title in three years at the Stuttgart Open back in June. The former world number three has improved with each passing game in Moscow at a tournament he has twice won before in 2014 and 2015. He has won 19 career title and lost in 14 other finals for a record that leaves the door slightly ajar here for world number 22 Aslan Karatsev, who would love nothing more than to finish his season off how it started. The Russian burst onto the scene at the Australian Open in February, where he reached the semi-finals as a qualifier in a historic run, after winning the ATP Cup alongside compatriots Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev. He will be well-backed on home soil but Cilic was the winner of their recent first encounter back in August at the Cincinnati Open and his experience at this level should see him earn at least a set here.
