THE LOWDOWN

Leylah Annie Fernandez has had back-to-back straight set victories in order to reach the third round with relative ease. She has been taken to at least 12 games in a set on three occasions out of four, though. She now comes up against the reigning champion Naomi Osaka who proceeded to the stage of the competition after the withdrawal of Olga Danilovic prior to their second round encounter and the Japanese world number three had a straight set victories in the first round.

THE PREDICTION

The four-time Grand Slam winner Naomi Osaka will remain the favourite for this but Fernandez has been impressive. Fernandez taking this to three sets wouldn’t be out of the question but Osaka should still be the fairly comfortable winner in the end.
