THE LOWDOWN

Jenson Brooksby defeated Mikael Ymer of Sweden in the first round in four sets. The American wild card entry is playing at his fourth ever Grand Slam and it is the first time he has played at two in the same year following a first round appearance at Roland-Garros. He comes against the current world number 42 Taylor Fritz. 23 year-old Fritz has a consistency in terms of his career best performances at Grand Slam with the third round his current ceiling in all four major events. He has achieved two of those third round finishes in 2021 at Wimbledon and the Australian Open. Fritz also won in four sets in the first round as he defeated Alex de Minaur.

THE PREDICTION

This is a contest between two youngsters of the sport but Fritz, who has a few years on his opponent, has shown he can be more than competitive at Grand Slam events. This is an all-American affair in New York so it is likely to be a fiercely competed encounter and it should be worth four or five sets so overs for games played is a good bet with Taylor Fritz coming into the match as the favourite.
