The Dutch 25 year-old Tallon Griekspoor comes into this US Open tournament ranked 110th in the world as of August 2021. He has not posed a threat at the pointy stage of any ATP Tour finals yet and his Grand Slam record is something of a rookie. Griekspoor has only competed at two finals of Grand Slam events and he was knocked out in the first round on both occasions.
JAN-LENNARD STRUFF
Jan-Lennard Struff made the third round of this competition in 2020 and he has a generally competitive record at the start of Grand Slam tournaments. Struff, who turned pro in 2009, tends to get through the first round of the event. His most recent strong performance came at home in the Bavarian Championships whereby he was defeated by Nikoloz Basiliashvili in the final in May 2021.
THE PREDICTION
These two are yet to meet so the head-to-head record is not something to base a prediction on but that doesn’t matter because there is a clear favourite. Struff will come in as the favourite but his own poor form and the stubbornness of his opponent means it is unlikely to be a walkover. The best bet for this would be to go on overs for games played.
