THE PREDICTION

Stockholm Open’s defending champion Denis Shapovalov got his campaign underway in the round of 16 with a comfortable-enough victory over Andrea Vavassori on Thursday. However, the 22-year-old has failed to win back-to-back matches since reaching the third round of the US Open back in September, with a defeat to Jan-Lennard Struff at the St. Petersburg Open two weeks ago particularly lacklustre. The Canadian has made some great strides this season with a first semi-final reached at a Grand Slam after his stunning Wimbledon campaign but inconsistency has been rife since and this looks like another Stockholm Open match with a potential upset in it. World number 60 Arthur Rinderknech has enjoyed a breakthrough season at 26 years old with this his seventh quarter-final on tour. He has a decent chance at making just a second semi-final if he can hit Shapovalov early in this first meeting but taking the Frenchman to win at least a set here looks a valuable option against his currently fallible opponent.
