THE PREDICTION
Sardegna Open second seed Taylor Fritz beat Aljaz Bedene in comfortable straight sets to set up his fourth career meeting with world number 34 Lorenzo Sonego. The Italian almost came unstuck against in-form German Yannick Hanfmann but fought back from a set down well to reach the semi-finals. Just over a month ago Fritz beat Sonego in straight sets in the first round of the Qatar Open to make it 2-1 in favour of the American in their head-to-head record but the tables have turned a little on this surface and in a home environment for the Italian. Sonego won their only clay-court match to date at last year’s Roland-Garros but Fritz is pretty handy on this surface too. A result looks a little tricky between two players well capable of faltering or stunning each other and so taking this match to see three sets and leaving the winner out of it looks a wise move.
