THE PREDICTION

Both Marton Fucsovics and Fabio Fognini lost in the first round of the Vienna Open last time out to gather some limited indoors experience ahead of the last Masters event of the season. 34-year-old Fognini has been on a steady decline in form since failing to defend his Monte-Carlo Open title back in April, with two third round exits at Roland-Garros and Wimbledon realistically his best campaigns since. The Italian has won three of four meetings with Hungarian number one Fucsovics, including in the second round of Roland-Garros back in June, but 29-year-old Fucsovics’ solitary win came at the 2018 Vienna Open in conditions similar to Paris. That, as well as a recent run to the European Open quarter-finals, suggests taking Fucsovics to win at least a set could be the shrewd move here.
