THE PREDICTION

World number 51 Laslo Djere is one of the more ‘specialist’ clay specialists inside the ATP’s top 100 players with a 3-8 record since the end of the clay swing, in which he made back-to-back semi-finals in Hamburg and Gstaad. The 26-year-old also finished runner-up to Lorenzo Sonego at the Sardegna Open back in April but he has won two titles of his own on the surface in 2019 at the Rio Open and at the Sardinia Open last season. World number 67 Lorenzo Musetti lost to Djere in both that Sardinia Open last season and this year’s Sardegna Open (in Cagliari), with the Serb making it 3-0 in their head-to-head recently on a hard court at the Astana Open.

19-year-old Musetti has a huge future ahead of him but since taking Novak Djokovic to the very brink at Roland-Garros back in June he has struggled to find his best level. The Italian qualified as a lucky loser after losing to Hugo Gaston on Sunday and that form suggests Djere can extend his unbeaten run over him here. However, lucky losers have generally found success this season in making the most of their second chances and that make this match look one to avoid in an accumulator.
