THE PREDICTION

Former world number one Andy Murray successfully ended an ATP season without injury for the first time since 2017 this year, with a hugely encouraging 15-14 record for a recovery year and two top 10 wins suggesting he can enjoy 2022 with greater confidence. The former British number one faces a more recent British number one, though now number two behind Cam Norrie, in world number 25 Dan Evans, who enjoyed the best season of his career with a first ATP title won and a stunning defeat of world number one Novak Djokovic amongst other achievements. The pair have yet to meet on tour but this should be a good-natured but fierce battle in Abu Dhabi if their last exhibition match is anything to go by. 31-year-old Evans came off the worse in the ‘Battle of The Brits’ tournament back in 2020 in straight sets and taking Murray to get the better of his fellow 2015 Davis Cup winner seems the likeliest way this tight one falls. They will play again next week in Aberdeen for what should be a rematch with an entertaining edge however this match plays out.
