THE PREDICTION

World number 31 Daria Kasatkina put in her best showing of the Silicon Valley Classic to beat top seed Elise Mertens in straight sets on Saturday. The 24-year-old is through to her fourth final of the season and looking tough to beat but world number 36 Danielle Collins conceded just two games in her semi-final to Ana Konjuh and this looks like a thriller in San Jose. 27-year-old Collins won her first WTA title only two weeks ago in Palermo and her performances this week have been reflective of a powerful player regaining her confidence on court.

Kasatkina looks to be in pole position here for a third WTA title in 2021 as she leads a head-to-head record with Danielle Collins 2-0, including a semi-final win en-route to her Philipp Island Trophy in Melbourne back in February. That was a hard-fought three-set encounter in Melbourne and this final looks like a set is in it for both players, with Collins currently in some of her best form. In a pretty difficult match to call, take the home favourite Collins to win at least a set and leave the champion up to chance.
