Miami Open’s 22nd seed Taylor Fritz continues his excellent recent form into the round of 16 after overcoming Cameron Norrie on three sets late on Sunday and he will be the slight favourite to beat Alexander Bublik here. However, 23-year-old Bublik is the most unpredictable player on tour in many ways and he leads a head-to-head record 2-0 against Fritz with two hard-court victories in 2019 and 2020. World number 44 Bublik has made two ATP 250 finals this season already but lost both, one via a retirement through injury, and he looked in strong form against James Duckworth on Sunday. Having avoided the hard-working Aussie’s potential banana skin, Bublik on a good day has more weapons in his arsenal than Fritz, who is a more honest, hard-working baseline battler. Given that the record suggests Bublik has Fritz’s number, but the superior recent form of the American, take this match to need all three sets and leave a winner up to chance.
