THE PREDICTION

World number 76 Alexei Popyrin should not be underestimated here by number 18 Jannik Sinner as the 21-year-old Aussie was assured in his straight-sets victory over last week’s Munich Open finalist Jan-Lennard Struff. Popyrin claimed his first ever ATP title back in February at the Singapore Open and he is improving all the time into the player we saw flashes of a few years ago. However, 19-year-old Sinner’s star is rising exponentially and he should be considered a top 10 player in-waiting already. The Italian was in control against Guido Pella on Tuesday before the Argentine sadly had to retire through injury but it looked like a solid straight-sets win before that. Sinner should be winning this in two but Popyrin has a knack for forcing, and often winning, a tiebreak so it is with caution that the pick here is still Sinner in two. Perhaps separately it could be worth opting for at least one tiebreak in this one.
