THE PREDICTION
Due to the current coronavirus-induced staggering on the ATP world rankings, Gael Monfils remains world number 15 despite having not won a match on tour since February of last year. The Frenchman has struggled with fitness more than form this season and so this match will be touch and go throughout. 34-year-old Monfils won his first of 10 ATP titles on this surface back in 2005 but nine hard titles since shows where his strengths lie, especially as he is less mobile these days. World number 33 Lorenzo Sonego won the Sardegna Open last month to kickstart his clay campaign but has struggled to make an impact since. He should have enough to overcome a returning Monfils, though, but this match is worth steering clear of until the Frenchman takes to court and even then it is unclear if he will complete it.
