THE LOWDOWN

World number 26 Cam Norrie raced to a 1-0 lead against Tennys Sandgren on Saturday but the American fought back well to take the second. However, a 6-0 third set for Norrie is testament to his ability this year in what has been a breakthrough season on tour. The 26-year-old has reached five ATP finals, including a first 500 event at Queen’s, winning his first ever title at the Los Cabos Open back in July. World number 19 Roberto Bautista Agut overcame a potential banana skin in Guido Pella, winning in straight sets to reach the third round of Indian Wells for a sixth time. The Spaniard has won nine ATP titles so far but he finished runner-up twice this season to David Goffin in Montpellier and Andrey Rublev in Rotterdam.

THE PREDICTION

Cam Norrie famously beat Roberto Bautista Agut, then world number 23, in five sets on his Davis Cup debut less than a year since turning professional back in 2018. The British number two is one of 2021s most improved players with a vast amount of top 20 wins under his belt including then world number Dominic Thiem and, last week in San Diego, world number five Andrey Rublev. This should be a really enjoyable rematch between RBA and Norrie with a winner hard to side with. In a match that looks likely to need a decider take Norrie to win at least a set as the man in the better form right now.
