THE PREDICTION
World number two answered his critics on this surface with a confident three-set win over Alexander Bublik on Monday. The 25-year-old has made his dislike for clay known but he has clearly made peace with it for the importance of a Grand Slam and that makes him an intensely dangerous opponent once again in this half of the draw. World number 52 Tommy Paul will have to paly his best match of his young career to overcome the Russian but he is no stranger to a five-setter and showed that in the first round. Paul raced ahead to a two-set lead against Christopher O’Connell before being pegged back but a 10-8 final set shows for the American’s excellent grit. This should fall in three to Medvedev but Paul has played well enough to potentially snatch something here so take Medvedev as outright winner.
