THE PREDICTION
This should be a must-watch second round match and first meeting between 22-year-old Mikael Ymer and 34-year-old Gael Monfils after both players fought hard to reach this stage. World number 105 Ymer is better than his current ranking and showed that in scraping past a strong clay-court player, Roberto Carballes Baena, via a five-set marathon on Tuesday. The Swede rallied well from going 1-2 down and that positivity looks set to match Monfils’ well on Thursday for a high-quality match on Suzanne Lenglen. World number 15 Monfils enjoyed his return to Paris in front of friends and family and after a slow start against Albert Ramos-Vinolas, a really tough opening match, he came through well in four sets. A result here looks tougher than at first glance but Monfils’ experience, especially with a win under his belt, should see him through. There looks to be sets in this for both, though, so take the Frenchman as outright winner here.
