THE PREDICTION

This is a well-contested match-up between world number 22 Alex de Minaur and number 83 Marco Cecchinato, with the Italian winning their last meeting less than year ago in the first round of the delayed 2020 Roland-Garros. 22-year-old De Minaur still leads their head-to-head record 3-2 with two wins at Wimbledon and a hard-court victory in Cincinnati but Cecchinato has won both of their clay clashes so far. Cecchinato got off to a slow start against Yasutaka Uchiyama on Tuesday in a match he was expected to coast through whilst De Minaur took out a tough competitor in Stefano Travaglia in straight sets. Whilst a result looks a difficult call here considering their record on clay, Alex de Minaur should be able to take the first set as a notoriously fast-starter. If over three sets is an option, take that instead, otherwise take the Aussie to win the first set in what could be a five-set marathon.
