THE PREDICTION
Rafael Nadal and Jannik Sinner have already played each other twice before which goes to show just how prolific this young Italian has become. 19-year-old Sinner made the quarter-finals here last season before Nadal beat him in straight sets and the pair also faced off last month at the Italian Open, where Sinner was exceptional and yet still fell in straight sets to Nadal’s magnificence. World number three Nadal has so far gone about his Roland-Garros business as normal by blitzing through the first week without dropping a set but Sinner will be eager to snap that record as a show of his continuing improvement. The world number 19 got off to a shaky start last week but took his first straight-sets victory very well against Mikael Ymer on Saturday. This should be a fascinating match and it is likely Sinner will push Nadal all the way to the 10th and 12th games of some sets but it is hard to see Nadal not come through this ultimately in three.
