THE PREDICTION

World number 11 Jannik Sinner is riding a seven-match winning streak from his European Open win last weekend through to the semi-finals of the Vienna Open after taking out the fourth seed Casper Ruud in assured straight sets. The 20-year-old is getting closer and closer to a simply outstanding achievement if he sneaks into the year-end ATP Finals, and beating the world number eight like that is hugely symbolic. Sinner is yet to drop a set in Vienna and he faces world number 49 Frances Tiafoe next leading a 2-0 head-to-head record over the American. 23-year-old Tiafoe proved a lot of doubters wrong with his straight-sets victory over in-form Diego Schwartzman on Friday, backing up yet another brilliant victory over world number three Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Tiafoe is so much better than his ranking and we could be seeing the beginning of a better, more consistent tour player in him. He remains the underdog here but taking out the top players, especially when they are on the up, is when he can often find his best, most combative ability. Sinner to win outright is the call but it would not be a surprise to see Tiafoe take this all the way.
