THE PREDICTION

23-year-old Frances Tiafoe played some of the best tennis of his young career on Saturday to come back from a set and a break down to beat in-form world number 11 Jannik Sinner. The 23-year-old had to qualify for the Vienna Open and dropped sets in both his qualifying matches but once he hits the big stage he is a totally different player. Another victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas was in keeping with his excellent recent form but to beat the insatiable Sinner, who was riding a seven-match winning streak, from so far behind is all the more impressive. The current world number 49 is through to his first ATP 500 final, facing world number four Alexander Zverev for a seventh time in their careers. 24-year-old Zverev has been challenged this week in Vienna but to a lesser extent, although beating Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets on Saturday was a solid statement of intent. The German has won three ATP titles this season, including two Masters in Madrid and Cincinnati, as well as Gold Medal from the Tokyo Olympic Games.

Frances Tiafoe is in possibly the form of his career so far, with exhibition tennis pouring from him against Jannik Sinner on Saturday. He trails a fairly convincing 5-1 head-to-head record with Alexander Zverev, though, and the German is the solid favourite to make that a sixth victory, and fourth in a row. Two of their six matches have seen sets go both ways, including an exciting five-setter at the US Open back in 2019, and it is hard to see Tiafoe not taking a set here. However, the chance of Zverev blasting this in two is too high a factor not to take the world number four as outright winner.
