THE PREDICTION
Thiago Monteiro has made his second quarter-final of 2021 after beating Roberto Carballes Baena to make the last eight here in Cordoba and continue an impressive season so far. It took Andrey Rublev to knock the Brazilian out of the Australian Open, which is no embarrassment, and before that he reached the semi-finals of the Great Ocean Road Open at one of Melbourne Park’s warm-up events. As the seventh seed here, Monteiro is more likely the third favourite for the title here and he should be able to overcome young Juan Manuel Cerundolo here despite the Argentine’s impressive campaign. Having come through the qualifiers to beat the third seed Miomir Kecmanovic in the round of 16, the world number 335 could be one to watch for the future but he is unlikely to have enough to overpower a determined professional in Monteiro. Straight sets looks the likeliest route to the semi-finals for the 26-year-old Brazilian here.
