THE PREDICTION
World number 47 Albert Ramos-Vinolas has an excellent opportunity here to win a third ATP title after winning the Bastad Open in 2016 and Gstaad in 2019, both also on clay. The Spaniard took out the top seed Diego Schwartzman impressively in the quarter-finals in one of four three-set matches played this week in Cordoba and that suggests this match should go to a decider before a winner emerges. His opponent, Juan Manuel Cerundolo, had never played in a tour-level tournament before the Cordoba Open this week but has reached his maiden final on debut emphatically. The 19-year-old Argentine has also played three three-set matches in a row now after emphatically beating two seeds in Thiago Monteiro and Miomir Kecmanovic before overcoming Federico Coria in the semi-finals on Saturday. Two left-handers in the final should neutralise some of Cerundolo’s unpredictability, and it remains to be seen how the youngster will cope with the pressure on, but pressure and momentum are two sides of the same coin and his dream run to a native final here in Cordoba looks like it may continue.
The safe option here is to take three sets in this final and leave it there. Albert Ramos-Vinolas should be winning this but the Cordoba Open has thrown up surprise after surprise and that looks like it will end with a 19-year-old winning his maiden ATP title on debut.
