THE PREDICTION
The Citi Open looks like 19-year-old Jannik Sinner’s to lose now after the world number 24 grabbed a third-successive straight-sets victory to reach the semi-finals. The Italian has taken out three tough foes in Emil Ruusuvuori, his Men’s Doubles partner Sebastian Korda and Steve Johnson and he remains the only seed left in the draw in a week full of upsets. However, this first meeting with 20-year-old Jenson Brooksby is a deeply interesting one. The American is the older man but vastly less experienced than Sinner, who has two ATP titles to his name so far. World number 130 Brooksby is getting a lot of attention for his stellar performances in Washington, though, and looks like a player of the future making himself known in much the same way Sinner did around this time last year.
Brooksby has beaten Kevin Anderson, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Frances Tiafoe and now John Millman in straight sets to make this a first meeting between two players with a perfect record so far this week. Sinner should be winning this contest, especially as his confidence has clearly returned, but it is hard not to back Brooksby to continue this surging momentum. Take the American to win at least a set here and leave a winner up to chance. One things looks sure; whomever comes out of this semi-final will be favourite for the title.
