THE PREDICTION
This will be an enthralling rematch between world number two Daniil Medvedev and number 13 Hubert Hurkacz after Hurkacz shocked the Russian in the round of 16 at Wimbledon over two days and five sets. 25-year-old Medvedev had been in control of their first meeting before rain forced them in overnight and both players came back in completely different moods to see the Pole overturn a big deficit. Hurkacz went on to reach the semi-finals in his best campaign on tour yet but he also won his first Masters event earlier this season with a brilliant run at the Miami Open. After going a set down to an impressive Nikoloz Basilashvili on Thursday, Hurkacz turned it on to win in three and dissipate any talk of another blip in form. Having already had his scare in the round prior against Alexander Bublik, Medvedev comprehensively beat James Duckworth to reach this stage with little fuss.
The motivation for revenge will be strong for Daniil Medvedev here but Hurkacz is one of those players who sometime turns up to court a total world beater. The Pole’s unpredictability makes this a complicated match to call but Medvedev is a better player on the North American hard courts than he is the grass of Wimbledon and that should see him come through the eventual winner here.
