THE PREDICTION

27-year-old Ilya Ivashka’s three-set defeat of the Munich Open first seed Alexander Zverev was nothing short of masterful and yet not too surprising given how well the Belarusian has been playing lately. This performance has been coming after the world number 107 grabbed a first set off Rafael Nadal at last week’s Barcelona Open before going on to lose and Zverev’s head has been down for a few weeks now since winning the Mexican Open. Ivashka should struggle to contain his nerves here in the semi-finals against seventh seed Jan-Lenard Struff, who overcame Filip Krajinovic in an enthralling three-set tussle in much the same way he overcame Dominik Koepfer the round previous. 31-year-old Struff will know not to underestimate Ivashka now he has beaten Zverev and that provides a whole new set of issues for the Belarusian to work out. For want of a tricky result, take this match to see a tiebreak. Struff has already seen three this week and Ivashka has played one in each of his last two matches.
