THE LOWDOWN
MARTON FUCSOVICS
- Hungarian “Iron Man” Marton Fucsovics was incredible in his second round match with the 17th seed Stan Wawrinka, racing to a two-set lead before recalibrating to take the deciding set.
- The world number 55 has played Milos Raonic twice before and lost both occasions, oddly at the same tournament with two successive straight-sets defeats at the Stuttgart Open on grass in 2018 and 2019.
MILOS RAONIC
- World number 14 Milos Raonic was tested early-on against up-and-coming French youngster Corentin Moutet but after losing the first-set tiebreak the Canadian made short work of the next three sets.
- The 30-year-old has made the quarter-finals in five of his last six appearances at the Australian Open and on four of those occasions it has taken either Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal or Andy Murray to knock him out.
THE PREDICTION
Marton Fucsovics has a penchant for five-set thrillers at the Australian Open and came through his battle with Stan Wawrinka masterfully to reach the third round. Having already played 10 sets in just two rounds, the fiercely fit 29-year-old will definitely still be feeling his legs in this third career meeting with Milos Raonic and he has never beaten the Canadian. Raonic’s play-style should punish Fucsovics’ potential fatigue as he forces the Hungarian from side to side and the world number 14’s patience should see him come through here in four or five. Take Raonic to win the match by any means with at least one tiebreak here as it remains to be seen what state of fitness Fucsovics can muster here.
