THE PREDICTION
21-year-old Serb Miomir Kecmanovic will be hoping to make it through to the second round of the Australian Open at the third time of asking here having lost in the first round in the last two years. He faces Poland’s Kamil Majchrzak for the first time in their careers with the Pole coming off a big win against another Serb in world number 56 Laslo Djere at the Adelaide International last Sunday. World number 42 Kecmanovic enjoyed success in that delayed tournament too before coming unstuck against Jannik Sinner in the quarter-finals and this looks to be a competitive first round match. Kecmonovic has plenty of potential but has sometimes struggled to perform on the big stages, though Majchrzak has yet to win a match at a Grand Slam and that should eventually tell here. Both players to claim a set in a Kecmanovic win seems a reasonable outcome given Majchrzak’s recent win over Djere.
