23-year-old Juame Munar overcame a tough test against in-form Ilya Ivashka via a lengthy three-set quarter-final clash and this semi-final should be all about him as a young Spaniard in Marbella. However, he will face a player six years his junior in 17-year-old Carlos Alcaraz who beat 39-year-old Feliciano Lopez in straight sets on Friday with one of his most comprehensive results so far. The nature of Alcaraz’ win over Lopez is more impactful than the victory in many ways. A straight-sets win suggests the Spanish starlet is beginning to believe his own hype where so far he has been part of so many three-set matches, mostly losses, on tour. Four Spaniards remain in the last four of the Andalucia Open and Alcaraz’ performance on Friday has pushed him into second favourite for a shock title here. Munar has beaten the second seed this week in Fabio Fognini and will have plenty to say in this match but take Carlos Alcaraz to ride this momentum through to the final as the outright winner.
