THE PREDICTION

World number 133 Carlos Alcaraz is no secret anymore but the 17-year-old is still a surprising talent at such a tender age and the Spaniard beat a Spanish veteran in Feliciano Lopez in the round of 16 of the Andalucia Open on Thursday evening in a rather emblematic changing of the guard. Lopez was a set up in that encounter before Alcaraz fought back and it will be fiercely interesting to watch his progress throughout the clay court season. This test looks a little too strong, though, as third seed Casper Ruud is an excellent player anywhere but could certainly add to his one ATP title so far on clay he claimed in Buenos Aires last year. World number 26 Ruud beat Gianluca Mager in straight sets on Thursday but should face a more solid challenge throughout in this first of what could be many meetings with Alcaraz over the next decade. 22-year-old Ruud is a veteran himself in comparison with Alcaraz and should be able to see it through to the semi-finals via three sets.
