THE PREDICTION
Rather surprisingly, this is the first meeting between world number 20 Grigor Dimitrov and number 18 Karen Khachanov. Both players took part in last week’s European Open, where Dimitrov lost in the semi-finals to the eventual runner-up Alex de Minaur and Khachanov lost out in the quarters to Dan Evans, and they will be eager to improve upon that campaign here. Dimitrov is a particularly difficult player to pin down right now, with plenty of promising signs since the re-start of the season but the Bulgarian has not exactly pulled up any tress either. The same could be said for Khachanov, who seems to be slowly slipping away from his Russian counterparts, Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev, at the very top of the game. This match looks set to be a slog between two very physical, robust players but in their respective best forms it could be argued that Dimitrov edges the result. This match could go either way, however, and opting to call a deciding set over a definite result might be a sound move here.
