THE PREDICTION
Novak Djokovic battled his way past a stubborn Dominik Koepfer on Saturday to reach yet another semi-final and with great rival Rafael Nadal exiting the tournament at the quarter-final stage, the Serb will be feeling good about his chances of lifting the Italian Open trophy for the fifth time in his career. He must first make it past fearless youngster Casper Ruud though, who outlasted Matteo Berrettini in an epic deciding set-tie break to reach his first Masters 1000 semi-final. The Norwegian will feel like he has nothing to lose here and will be content with slugging it out with Djokovic from the back of the court. Clay suits his game perfectly and you feel he has a chance here given that Djokovic has not quite been at his best this past week, but you feel that the world number one’s experience in the big moments may carry him through. The upset shouldn’t be ruled out, but Djokovic in three sets is the prediction.
